In the course of digitalisation, almost all business sectors are transforming profoundly. Communication within the company is certainly no exception to that. It was only until a few years ago that business correspondence was principally done by fax, e-mail or even by letter. These days, various modern communication methods are used.

How is business communication developing?

Until a few years ago, gestures and facial expressions had to be considered. Communication often refers to the interaction in which the partners face each other directly and exchange information during meetings, phone calls or other conversations.

For instance, in addition to the usual means of communication, the fax has long been a popular medium for transmitting important matters. But, hand on heart, how often do companies still use a fax machine nowadays? Contracts and offers are transmitted digitally and almost everything is done by e-mail. This means of communication has become an indispensable way of information exchange. But the possibilities have continued to develop for a few years to modernize the communication of a company even more.

What distinguishes digital communication?

WhatsApp Business, Facebook Messenger, Slack, Office 365, Skype, Xing, LinkedIn – all these communication tools have become common methods of communicating with customers or business partners. The possibilities for interaction in this area are constantly increasing which also affects the language we use. The “digital language” is characterized by abbreviations like “emojis” which attach great significance to a simple and concise form of expression.

Digital communication: how does a company communicate today?

Digital communication eases our everyday business life. As a result, it becomes more flexible and at the same time, work processes are speeded up. Online meetings and video conferences make virtual “meetings” possible and play an important role in our increasingly complex business schedule.

In summary, it can be said that communication today is simple and flexible. Also, as already mentioned, modern ways of communication save a considerable amount of our time and increase the efficiency of the daily routines of the office. As a result, we can deal with time and location much more freely and flexibly. More and more virtual and intercultural co-working teams are emerging thanks to these new developments.
